Road

try and prepare for your road trip By

Road Trip! Wow, I haven’t gone one
of these in a while. It’ll be first with my stunning Impreza and
my first with my best friend. So in preparation for that I’ve
decided to write an article about some of the things that I’m
preparing for. We’ll be going up to Prince George from Vancouver
tomorrow morning and we’ll stay at my friend’s place.
Being
Organized
I’m considered one of the more organized people
according to some people that I know. Well, that’s only when I
need to be, I’m usually a bum and disorganized as anyone. So for
this road trip all we are eating is McDonald’s and drinking coffee
at Tim Horton’s. Before I get 540ed by my best friend, who’s
a 3rd degree in Tae Kwon Doe by the way, and forget my car keys I’ll
quickly go through how I’m preparing for this road trip.
Maps
and Directions
Maps! Ok, I’m lucky I have a living navigator
sitting beside me on this trip. However, it still is a good idea to
have a map as to where you’re going. You don’t have to go
to the bookstore to buy a $50 map, just look online and see where you’re
going. It obviously depends on the kind of person you are, I’m
pretty good with directions and if I’ve been somewhere once, I
can “feel” my way there again. I’ve never been to
Prince George and all I know is that it’s north of Vancouver.
I’ve done my research on Google Maps.
It’s good to have an idea as to where
you’re going. We’re obviously going to Prince George, that’s
apparently around 787 km driving distance from Vancouver. Quite a distance,
but I guess with my car getting gas and me getting coffee, we should
be alright. It really surprises me how huge Canada is sometimes. Imagine,
I can drive ten hours north and still not even be halfway up British
Columbia!
Accomodation
We won’t be staying
anywhere overnight on the way, but if you are then you should probably
take a quick look at some of the options as to where you can stay. With
the Internet nowadays, you can pretty much find what type of cockroach
lives in every city so I’m sure you can find a decent motel en
route ahead of time. You might even be able to find an online discount
and see what other people think about the place you’re thinking
of staying at.
Car
Maintenance
Check your car! I’d
rather take my car in for service now than to repair something on a
mountain with hungry bears. I bought my car last November and already
took it in for a service so we should be alright. Watch, just because
I said that, something is going to happen. Just make sure you don’t
have a whole in your gas tank, among other things. Otherwise, you’re
gas price will probably be pretty high.
Surprises
Be ready for surprises!
Anything can happen on a road trip. And I mean anything, crazy animals,
crazy friends, insanely loud snoring friends, and flying saucers! I’m
looking forward to seeing my share of dinosaurs on this trip! Isn’t
that what Prince George is known for?
Driving
and Alertness
Be alert and aware at
all times. Highway driving is different from city driving but still
you will have crazy drivers all over the place. As a driver and a navigator
you can enjoy the scenery but don’t get indulged in it when you’re
driving down curvy mountain roads. Use cruise control when you can on
straightaways to conserve gas and be smart! If you have ninety cars
lined up behind you because you’re going 30km/h looking at that
flower down the road, you might want to step on it or move aside and
stop slowing down traffic.
Mo2
Thinks
Mo2 thinks you should
do whatever you can to have fun on any trip, and a road trip is no different.
By being prepared for everything, it takes out a lot of stress during
the trip. How great a trip is often determined before you even take
a step our of your door. Choosing the right people has a lot to do with
this too. You don’t want a whiner travelling with you. If you
do, keep a sack of stinky socks to stick in their mouths. I might keep
one prepared just in case my best friend decides to change his personality
during this trip…
