The World loses Jack Layton and Steve Jobs
“Love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world.” – Jack Layton.
If you’ve been reading my posts you’ve probably figured out that I live in Canada. And if you are also in Canada, you would often see Jack Layton, former leader of the NDP on TV tearing apart the leadership party about one thing after another. He was a respected man and politician, that was recognizable for almost anyone in Canada. Jack Layton led his party to a monumentous victory in the Canadian Federal election in 2011 by leading the NDP (New Democratic Party) to become the opposition party for the first time.
Everything was looking well just until a few weeks ago when Jack Layton said he would be stepping down, at least temporarily, as leader of the NDP to recover from cancer, again. He said he would be back in the fall, and knowing how Mr. Layton responded the last time, I believed him. Unfortunately, on August 22nd, 2011, Jack Layton passed away leading many in Canada mourning, we lost a man that truly cared for the country, regardless of what anyone says.
I feel for Jack Layton’s family. He was a great man that did so many things for Canada that we as citizens of this country cannot begin to thank him for. He was 61 years young, when he passed.
Steve Jobs Resigns as Apple CEO
Apple became the world’s largest company according to market capitalization just a couple weeks ago amid the turmoil that our market is experiencing. On August 9th, 2011 Apple’s market capitalization was $337 billion dollars which is astounding. For those that don’t know what market capitalization is, it’s the outstanding shares of a company multiplied by the price of the common shares of a company.

So Steve Jobs, the person that did it all, from reviving Apple from the ruins to earning only $1 as a CEO is resigning. What could this possibly mean? I agree with quite a few analysts that it probably won’t mean much in the near term and at least the next 6 months. Apple is on a roll with the Ipad 2, Cloud, and the release of the new Iphone coming. But in the following years, you wonder how things will go, Steve Jobs will still be around as Chairman, but things will definitely start to change over time.
What does this mean in the grand scheme of things? Hard to say, but I wouldn’t be putting all of my money in Apple stock at the moment. But that doesn’t mean Apple is going to go under either, Apple is such a strong brand and all of the great people that created the wonderful gadgets like the Ipad 2 that we have today are still with the company. And they will hopefully continue to produce amazing stuff.
What we will miss are Steve Jobs’ releases of new products from Apple. He brought that impact that made you go, “Wow!” I’m not saying the next presenter, most likely Apple’s new CEO Tim Cook won’t try, but it just won’t be the same. At least initially, it all depends on how Tim Cook will be able to handle himself.

We lose so many things everyday that’s we often can’t grasp what we lose. We hear about so many deaths in the world that we aren’t surprised or alerted when people die. You only think, “oh here we go again.” You only care when someone close to you dies, we all have or will lose someone very important to us. That’s a sad reality but it will only make us stronger.
All I can say is tomorrow is another day. We need to treasure each other more. Only love, hope, and optimism can make this world a better place. I think we take too many things for granted. Don’t you?
