Lebron James and the Miami Heat’s quest for a NBA Championship
Quick Facts:
- The big three being Lebron James, Chris Bosh, and Dwayne Wade will make a combined $43 million
- Lebron James took a pay cut but will most likely make it back with Florida’s tax laws
- A radio host in Cleveland hired a witch doctor to jinx James and his chances of winning a championship
The Big 3 versus the Big 3
Tonight, on October 26th, 2010, a new history will begin with Miami’s superstar three getting together and playing for the first time in a regular season game. Their first test is a big one as they face the other big 3 of the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference. Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Ray Allen aren’t going to be pushovers and I honestly think that Boston still has the better chance of winning a ring this year than the Miami Heat.
The game will begin at 7:30 EST on TNT or CSNE.
Chemistry and defence has a lot to do with success in today’s NBA. Boston has both, and they’re only going to get better even with Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen aging. But over time, Lebron James, Chris Bosh, and Dwayne Wade are really going to connect and it goes without saying that they have a major chance in winning a NBA championship, although that probably won’t come this year.
Money Machines in Miami
The big three are being paid well, that’s for sure but it still means good business for the Miami Heat. Their ticket sales are soaring and their merchandise will sell like there’s no tomorrow. The trend will continue as long as the team wins and while Lebron won’t top Kobe for top jersey sales for now, if he wins a championship, we might see a change.
A luxury single ticket for tonight’s game is reported to be going for $18,824 on Stubhub, that’s insane. The great thing is, they’ll be filling up the stadium’s they visit like they will tonight. Although the Celtics probably wouldn’t too much help to fill up even if they were playing the Atlanta Hawks.
Goodbye Toronto, Goodbye Cleveland
I lived in Toronto for a few years and I’ve always felt sorry for Chris Bosh. He has the stuff and he’s a great guy and deserved to win, but in Toronto it just wasn’t going to happen. Just like when Toronto lost Roy Halladay to the Philadelphia Phillies last year, I doubt there are too many that are bitter about losing Chris Bosh. Not because people in Toronto and Canada didn’t want him, but because he deserves more. Like Halladay, I hope Bosh can win a championship for all the hard work he’s put in.
The thing with Lebron is how he left Cleveland. Much has been said and done about his “Decision” on ESPN back on July 8th, 2010. I would agree that it was tasteless and he should have been honest with his fans in Cleveland that he wanted a chance to win and Miami was his best bet. The way he presented his choice to move just wasn’t what you would call professional. But let’s face it, it’s really up to him and he made the right choice if you look at it from a business perspective. He’s done everything he could for a Cleveland team that has been in the joke house for so long. He’s given the city a taste of what it feels like to win. Instead of dwelling on the past and hiring witch doctors to curse James, Cleveland needs to move on and find ways to build another contender.
I don’t think Lebron made the wrong decision. There’s so much pessimistic talk about what he did but it’s his choice and he should do what he thinks he should do. I’m still going to watch him play and still “Ooh” and “Aah” at his amazing moves and dunks. He’s a superstar, the King, and regardless of where he ends up we’re going to watch him. Just like how the season opener tonight might set a new record. People can talk all they want but let the man play, let him do what he does best. He’ll prove us wrong on the court where he’ll become a champion.
Having said that, I don’t see Miami winning the title this year. They’ll most likely have a great regular season and probably place first or second. Boston and Chicago will be a challenge for Miami but the real season begins in the postseason where anything can happen. Miami will either be taken out by the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference finals or by the Lakers in the NBA finals. Personally, I’m hoping Oklahoma City makes a huge run with Kevin Durant. I thought they were by far the most exciting team to watch in last year’s post season.
You should take a look at the New Nike commercial for Lebron James as well as it rocks. I love the doughnut and reference to Charles Barkley.
